The final will be contested by RB Leipzig and Eintracht Frankfurt in the 2022/23 season. On their way to the final, Frankfurt defeated second division club 1. FC Magdeburg (1st round), upper division club Stuttgarter Kickers (2nd round), second division club SV Darmstadt 98 (round of 16) and Bundesliga club 1. FC Union Berlin ( quarter-finals) and VfB Stuttgart (semi-finals).
Leipzig won against the regional league club Teutonia Ottensen (1st round), the second division club Hamburger SV (2nd round) and the Bundesliga clubs TSG Hoffenheim (round of 16), Borussia Dortmund (quarterfinals) and SC Freiburg (semifinals).
Where does the DFB Cup final take place?
The game will be played in the Olympic Stadium in Berlin, which is not a surprise: every men’s final has been held there since 1985. The final had previously been played at different locations, including Frankfurt am Main, Stuttgart and Düsseldorf.

Leipzig or Frankfurt – who has won the DFB Cup more often?
Leipzig is in the final of the DFB Cup for the third time in the past four years, and the club has only won once: in 2021/22 RB won against SC Freiburg on penalties.
Eintracht Frankfurt, on the other hand, has won the DFB Cup five times (1974, 1975, 1981, 1988 and 2018). Five years ago, the club won clearly 3-1 against FC Bayern as an outsider with coach Niko Kovac.
Who is the referee in the DFB Cup final?
The German Football Association (DFB) is responsible for appointing referees. The association has not yet announced who will referee the men’s DFB Cup final.
Again no joint fan scarf of the finalists
There will be no joint fan scarf for the finalists at the final of the DFB Cup this year either. Eintracht Frankfurt’s board spokesman, Axel Hellmann, has confirmed to the TV station “Bild” that an agreement has been reached with opponent RB Leipzig.
“Of course we talked on the phone about that. We quickly agreed that we would not open this debate and not make a fan scarf.”said Hellman. It was also agreed that “Communicative not the battle of the systems” open.
Last year there was no common scarf for the final between Leipzig and SC Freiburg. A week-long discussion had developed over this. Freiburg had forbidden Leipzig to use its club crest on fan paraphernalia. Board member Oliver Leki justified this with the lack of acceptance of RB among Freiburg supporters.
