Ajax has an almost fully fit selection against FC Groningen on Sunday afternoon. Steven Berghuis and Mohammed Kudus are also participating in the group training again. Nevertheless, trainer John Heitinga is cautious about their employability, as it turned out this afternoon at the press conference in Amsterdam.
Kudus returned to the starting line-up in the North Holland derby against AZ after missing four games. Berghuis was missing in that match. He suffered an injury in the cup final against PSV. “They both participated in most of the training today, but it remains to be seen whether they can play on Sunday.”
Ajax can use both players well against FC Groningen, as the Amsterdam club is still involved in an exciting battle with AZ for third place. That listing entitles you to play-offs for the Europa League in three games. “You will also have to recharge yourself now,” says Heitinga. “The interests are great. Not only for the club, but also for the players individually. They want to take steps, so it’s about which stage you play on.”
Brian Brobey
Heitinga invariably prefers Brian Brobbey as striker in the last three matches. Although the attacker was not successful at the decisive moments, he can charm Heitinga. “He has shown a lot of sharpness in recent duels. In addition, he was dangerous with his depth. Unfortunately, the goals were not forthcoming, but it made me happy.”
The kick-off of the match between FC Groningen and Ajax is on Sunday afternoon at 2.30 pm.
