Ex-national player Dietmar Hamann protects the boss of FC Bayern, Oliver Kahn, despite the disappointing season of the record champions.
“You knew that before! That’s how he was as a player. He was admired at the time because he was so good – and not because he was so popular,” said Hamann in an interview with the portal “web.de” and countered thus allegations that Kahn does not act empathetically enough. “You can’t blame the man for not turning around at the age of 53. So I don’t understand the accusations.”
Hamann hopes that Bayern will continue on the path with Kahn and sports director Hasan Salihamidzic, who has also come under criticism.
“Otherwise, by implication, that would mean: If you don’t win the championship, the board will fly! It’s not a matter of course that you win the championship every year,” said the former Bayern professional. “You have to give people the chance to straighten that out.”
Criticism of Tuchel
Hamann, on the other hand, is critical of the work of coach Thomas Tuchel, who replaced Julian Nagelsmann at the end of March.
“So far it can be said that FC Bayern is not only disappointed in terms of results, but also by the way they play football,” said the “Sky” expert.
After the premature end in the DFB Cup and the Champions League, Munich can only win the championship. The lead over pursuers Dortmund is one point four games before the end of the season.
