Tank truck on fire on highway near Roosendaal, fire brigade busy for hours

A tanker caught fire on the A17 near Roosendaal on Thursday evening. The highway was closed over a distance of several kilometers between the Noordhoek and De Stok interchanges. Traffic was routed inside.

The fire broke out around a quarter past eight. Both water and foam were used to extinguish the fire. The fire broke out in the cabin, says a spokesman for the fire department. The tank itself had just been cleaned and was empty. The fire is now out, but the cleanup by the fire brigade will take until midnight.

Part of the traffic that had to go to Bergen op Zoom was, according to the local police officers, sent through by Wouw. As a result, it was very busy on the road in the village.

The highway has now been partially reopened. Part of the road needs to be repaved, which will last until 4 a.m.
