The rumor mill about Darko Churlinov and a possible return to FC Schalke 04 has been simmering for weeks. Now S04 star Rodrigo Zalazar has fueled speculation about the hero of the last year’s promotion.
Zalazar shared in his on Sunday night Instagram story a video showing him together with Darko Churlinov at a German train station. Apparently he welcomed his former team-mate, who is currently under contract with English second division club Burnley, there. The Uruguayan captioned the video with the comment “He’s back in town”.
The first reports were already circulating in the spring that Churlinov could actually return to FC Schalke. With 22 appearances in the second division season, the Macedonian had played a strong year as a loan player from VfB Stuttgart in Gelsenkirchen and was very popular among the royal blue supporters.
Churlinov could return to FC Schalke 04 on loan
According to a recent media report, FC Schalke 04 are actually interested in bringing the 23-year-old back to the Ruhr area. According to information from the “Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung”, the club’s efforts are looking “very, very good” to sign Churlinov again for the coming season.
Above all, a lending business is conceivable again, according to the newspaper report. The winger joined Burnley FC last year for €3.5m and signed a contract until 2026.
It is true that Churlinov also managed to get back into the top flight early with Burnley, similar to a year earlier with FC Schalke in Germany. However, he himself did not get beyond the role of supplementary player and was only once in the championship in the starting lineup of his team.
