Aprilia double at Jerez, on the day that marks the exclusion from direct access to Q2 of the Spanish GP of the MotoGP, both of the leader of the World Championship, Marco Bezzecchi, and of the world champion Pecco Bagnaia. In the second free practice session, Aleix Espargaro set the best time for the RS-GP, who in 1’36″708 precedes his teammate Maverick Vinales by only 2 thousandths, setting the fastest time of the day. In a session characterized by the heat, some crashes ( Lekuona, twice Mir, Rins) and a red flag to fix an air fence at turn 13, the manufacturer from Noale broke the delay and scored a significant one-two, ahead of Jack Miller, third with the Ktm at 0″127, Johann Zarco, 4th with the Ducati Pramac at 0″188, and Miguel Oliveira, fifth with the RNF-registered Aprilia at 0″248.

bez and pecco chase

In the first ten of the Spanish afternoon there are also, in order, Alex Marquez, Marco Bezzecchi, Francesco Bagnaia, Dani Pedrosa and Luca Marini, but the combined times of the two sessions reward neither Bez nor Pecco. The two Italians, who occupy the first two places in the world standings, are in fact outside the top ten of the day: 12th Bezzecchi, also victim of the engine explosion of his Ducati VR46, and 13th Bagnaia, called to seek access to Q2 through a Q1 that promises to be on fire beyond the temperatures that didn’t allow everyone to improve their morning times.

quartiraro is wrong

These are the top ten, in order, already promoted to the noble stage of qualifying: Aleix Espargaro, Vinales, Pedrosa, Jorge Martin, Miller, Zarco, Oliveira, Alex Marquez, Takaaki Nakagami and Marini. First of the excluded Brad Binder, ahead of the excellent “failed” Bezzecchi and Bagnaia. Also called to a difficult climb was Fabio Quartararo, 16th of the day with Yamaha and author of an error in the final phase of Free Practice 2 which prevented him from reaching the Top-10. Still in difficulty Joan Mir, 18th with the Honda Hrc, and Enea Bastianini, 21st on the Ducati and not at his best due to the pain associated with a fractured scapula. Last at 2″5 Iker Lecuona: an inevitable adaptation is necessary for Marc Marquez’s replacement.
