IOC: figure fighter Kamila Valieva (15) will not receive medals during Games | Olympics

That award ceremony had previously been postponed due to the positive doping test of 15-year-old Russian Kamila Valieva, who had helped her country to gold. Should Valieva finish on the podium in the individual competition, she will not be awarded a medal at the Games either.

Valieva received permission from the international sports tribunal CAS on Monday to participate in the individual tournament, despite her positive doping test. The CAS protected her because she is a minor and she also had too little time to defend herself against the results of the doping control.

The Russian teenager was tested positive for the banned substance trimetazidine after the national championships in her country at the end of December, but only saw the result the day after the country’s victory in Beijing. The Russian anti-doping agency Rusada initially imposed a provisional suspension on her, but lifted it a day later. Subsequently, the IOC, the anti-doping agency WADA and the global skating association ISU filed an appeal with the CAS against that acquittal. The CAS rejected that appeal.
