After turbulent weeks, speculation is mounting that CEO Oliver Kahn’s tenure at Bayern Munich could soon end. Club legend Lothar Matthäus has heard similar information from his sources.
“It’s rumbling. Oliver Kahn’s name was also mentioned to me on the phone this morning. The position is no longer the most stable,” said the 62-year-old on Thursday evening before Bayer Leverkusen’s Europa League game against Union Saint- Gilloise at RTL.
Former professional Jan-Aage Fjörtoft had previously revealed that FC Bayern is currently working on a Kahn dismissal. The former world-class goalkeeper is contractually bound to Bayern until the end of 2024, but his departure could be brought forward, according to the alleged considerations.
The “Bild” brought similar revelations and wrote that Kahn “brutally wobbles”.
Meanwhile, Matthäus thinks it is absolutely necessary that the management level in Munich be questioned.
“Oliver said it himself: you have to turn every stone and question yourself – as has Hasan [Salihamidzic] and the players,” said the 1990 world champion.
Matthäus criticizes Hainer’s role at Bayern Munich
Meanwhile, President Herbert Hainer does not give the former Bayern captain good marks in the current crisis communication. You can’t hear Hainer “at the moment”, complained Matthäus.
“The last thing I heard from Herbert Hainer was an interview five weeks ago where he said: ‘We are planning the future with Julian Nagelsmann.’ And ten days later he was gone. After that he disappeared from the scene,” criticized the ex-midfielder.
Matthäus therefore takes the Bavarian President, who in his function as head of the supervisory board would have to make a decisive decision on a Kahn dismissal, to his duty.
“It is precisely these people who have to show strength at the moment, they also have to address the mistakes and weaknesses,” he said.
