Cocainorso at the cinema: true story, plot, review and cast

bbizarre and not very happy coincidence. All of Italy talks about JJ4the she-bear whose fate is still uncertain who killed a runner in Val di Sole, and here it comes to the cinema Cocainbeara movie of Elizabeth Banks inspired by a true event. We are not in the woods of Trentino, but in a forest in Georgia. QHere, in 1985, a 200-pound black she-bear was found dead for about a month. The analyzes revealed that the animal had in the body 3-4 grams of cocainebut around it lay 40 empty containers that could have housed much larger quantities.

The hypothesis is that the drug belonged to drug trafficker Andrew C. Thornton, who was transporting cocaine by plane and jumped from the aircraft with a parachute and a bag with 15 million dollars (about 14 million euros) in cocaine. He died because the parachute didn’t open, but the cocaine has been lost in the American forest and has come within bearish reach.

The bear would have been attracted by the smell of the man’s body and then experimented with the white powder, which proved fatal to him. Paul Eskobear, this is the nickname nicely attributed to the “cocaine addict” bear, in reality it did not attack anyone and is now embalmeddisplayed in a mall in Kentucky. In the film however, after having hoarded drugs he goes crazy and makes a real carnage, pounced on a couple of tourists (the woman will pay the price), on a ranger, the son, the rescuers.

The animal, like its cubs, is played by a real-life actor, whose movements were then applied to a digital bear. (Universal)

Cocainbear: the plot of the movie

The story begins with the flight from the drug trafficker’s plane. It then passes into the Chattahooge Forrest, Georgia. Two backpacking boyfriends are trekking when they come across a huge and ferocious brown bear that grabs the girl and tears her to pieces. It is Pablo Eskobear, who has already had the opportunity to taste the cocaine dispersed in the woods.

Kristoffer (Kristofer Hivju) and Elsa (Hannah Hoekstra). (Universal).

Meanwhile, the forest is populated. Policemen and drug traffickers arrive who want to recover the drugs, two little boys, Didi and Henry, driven by the spirit of adventure, and Didi’s mother, who wants to bring the children home. Who will find the cocaine first? The two little boys, who will meet the bear, now a drug addict. In the park, there is also the house of the ranger, where she lives with her son, a boy who belongs to the “pop art gang”, doochamps. The animal, which also has two puppies lost in the forest, will try to devour everyone, and in many cases it will succeed.

Keri Russell, Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Margo Martindale. (Universal)

The human race from the film comes out lousy

The film’s limit lies in the definition “horror comedy” given by the director (but not fully expressed), which, suspended between irony and violence, cannot find its key (perhaps only directors of the caliber of Tarantino manage to combine two items). The jokes and gags aren’t enough to classify it as a true comedy film, plus it’s not much splatter to be considered a horror film. even if there is no shortage of scenes in which the bear stoned on cocaine tears humans apart.

In Italy you will have one more problem: right now, looking at these passages, you can’t help but think of the terrible fate befell Andrea Papi, the Trentino runner mauled by the bear JJ4. And this makes these scenes rather indigestible and less enjoyable (in one the bear attacks an ambulance with the music of Just Can’t Get Enough by Depeche Modewould be laughable if it didn’t refer to the tragic news).

From left Eddie (Alden Ehrenreich) and Stache (Aaron Holliday).

Despite its ferocity, Cocainorso’s animal is a bit pitiful. Elizabeth Banks has indeed declared that the film is a sort of compensation for the animal who more or less accidentally swallowed horsepower doses of cocaine. The human race from the film comes out lousy: the ranger, the narcos, the gang’s scruffy criminals don’t shine for intelligence. The two little boys and the mother are saved, and it is no coincidence that they will not end up in the jaws of the bear.

In the cast also Ray Liotta in the last film

Beyond Keri Russell (the girl’s mother, already seen in The Americans), There are Margo Martindale (very good as the ranger), Alden Ehrenreich (was Han Solo in Solo: A Star Wars Story directed by Ron Howard).

Ray Liotta has died at the age of 67: he was one of Martin Scorsese's

Special mention to the late Ray Liotta, who passed away last May, to whom the film is dedicated. “She never saw the finished film, but she was able to see all of his scenes,” said the director. «And most importantly, he saw the bear, because he, like everyone else, also had to act with a dude wearing a black suit and with a stuntman hoping everything turns out okay.

The three bears, the mother and the cubs are created in computer graphics. The animal’s movements are acted out by the expert actor in motion capture Allan Henry (motion capture is a process by which the movements and acting of a real actor are digitized and transferred to a virtual character).

«The biggest challenge was trying to get as close as possible to the movements of a bear, at its own pace, the way a bear breathes and explores its surroundings. So I documented myself by looking Revenant – Revenant but also the dance de The Jungle Book. But most of my studies are nature documentaries, CCTV footage, or videos of people saying: “There’s a bear in my yard that’s tearing apart my car”».
