A deer was bitten to death by stray dogs near Dorst. A dead calf lay next to the bitten animal.
“The deer has been hunted and eaten by dogs. Due to the stress, the calf was probably born earlier,” says boa Aris van Sprundel. “Mother and young did not survive. To become discouraged.”
“A stray dog disturbs nature.”
Van Sprundel has already written an official report dozens of times this year. “Many people do not realize what their behavior means for nature and why the rules in nature actually exist. ‘My dog doesn’t do such a thing’ is what visitors often say. But a loose dog disturbs nature.”
The result is that bird species that breed on the ground are chased away and their chicks do not survive, young fawns are expelled, hares become stressed or badgers are disturbed at their burrows so that they no longer dare to leave their burrows.
“People think their dog isn’t doing anything.”
“I dare say that when a deer crosses the road during the day and is hit, the cause in most cases was disturbance,” says Van Sprundel. “People then think that their dog is not doing anything. But 500 meters further a deer is so startled that it runs away in blind panic. On the road, under a car.”
“I see it happen so often,” he continues. “That is why I am well past the warning stage. Dog not on a leash, you will get a fine from me.”
