Manchester United can’t get out of their earnings crisis in the Premier League. The team led by interim coach Ralf Rangnick drew 1-1 (1-0) from FC Southampton in front of home fans on Saturday. It was the third draw from the last five league games – for the time being the point was enough to draw level with fourth-placed West Ham United.
Ex-Dortmund Jadon Sancho (21′) gave Man United the lead but Ché Adams (48′) equalized in the second half. For Sancho it was the second league goal since his 85 million transfer last summer.
Cristiano Ronaldo, from whom Rangnick had recently demanded more goals, started and remained without a goal in the sixth game in a row. The Portuguese last had such a long dry spell in 2008 before his transfer from the “Red Devils” to Real Madrid.

With pursuers United playing two and three games fewer respectively, Arsenal, Tottenham and Wolverhampton could overtake the record champions. Consequently, the current fifth place should be treated with caution (on the Premier League table).
