Ed Sheeran thinks that in times of streaming and the resulting simplified access to music, album reviews are no longer necessary. He reiterated that people should make up their own minds instead.
“Why read another review? just hear it It is freely available. Make up your own mind about it. I would never read an album review and say, ‘I’m not going to listen to this,'” he said in one interview with ROLLING STONE.
He also believes that the time of deadlocked genres is a thing of the past: “I think there are two genres. There is good and bad. And I think the kids don’t believe in genres anymore either.” Access to music has also evolved away from just listening to the album: “Now there are only playlists and the kids say, ‘I like this song by this artist and I like this song by another artist.’ And that can be a Skrillex song next to a Doja Cat song next to a Kendrick Lamar song.”
With “Subtract” his fifth album will be released on May 5th and thus also the last of his “mathematical” era. The music video for “Eyes Closed” was released on March 24 as the first harbinger. In addition, he will be appearing on April 17th in Berlin’s Admiralspalast – his only concert in Germany this year. Advance ticket sales for the same start on March 30 at 10 a.m.
