Came from Bayer 04
Last July, Lennart Grill joined Union Berlin on loan from Bayer 04 Leverkusen in hopes of more playing time. The 24-year-old is still under contract with the “Werkself” until 2024, but is unlikely to return there. Again “foosball” reported, the Köpenickers have now firmly committed the goalkeeper. There has not yet been any confirmation from either club involved, and further contract details are also not known.
Although Grill only remains number two behind the mostly convincing regular keeper Frederik Rönnow (30) at Union, he was allowed to stand between the posts as a deputy in six games across all competitions this season – Grill kept three clean sheets. For both parties, the signs for an extension of the cooperation are evident. According to the magazine, it also seems possible that Grill will be temporarily loaned out.

Bayer Leverkusen had signed Grill in 2020 for 2 million euros from 1. FC Kaiserslautern, but from then on the Idar-Obersteiner only made five professional appearances. In the second half of 2021, Grill was loaned to SK Brann in Norway and made 15 appearances there. In Leverkusen he would probably have three competitors for the new season with Lukas Hradecky (33), Patrick Pentz (26) and Niklas Lomb (29).
