Clip and clear climate announcement from Giffey and Wegner!

Before the vote on the climate referendum on Sunday, Franziska Giffey (44, SPD), who is still in power, and the future governor of Berlin, Kai Wegner (50, CDU), clearly reject the turbo goals of the initiators: Priceless! Impossible!

Around 2.4 million citizens can decide tomorrow whether Berlin will be legally obliged to become climate-neutral by 2030.

Berlin’s CDU country chief Kai Wegner said before the coalition round on Friday: “We have a responsibility for the future of this city, and of course it’s about climate protection. But we also have a responsibility for the affordability of this city, we have a responsibility for the security of supply when it comes to energy. So a clear vote from me: No to the climate referendum!”

Clear text also from Franziska Giffey: “We think it is important that the topic is promoted, but it is not possible for Berlin to be climate-neutral by 2030.”

She warns against “window dressing” and emphasizes that “for reasons of feasibility, it is not justified to represent such a goal for 2030, because it simply cannot be implemented – with any money in the world”. She also referred to thousands of buildings that cannot become carbon neutral in seven years.

The CDU and SPD, who are currently negotiating black and red, have already agreed on a special fund of initially five billion euros for investments against climate change.
