Status: 03/23/2023 8:49 p.m

The Rhein-Neckar Löwen suffered their second defeat in a row in the Handball Bundesliga and are falling further behind in the title race.

The lions lost on Wednesday evening (03/23/2023) in the comeback of Uwe Gensheimer with 32:35 (13:14) and now have eleven minus points on the account. That is more than the competition from Berlin (7), Kiel (8) and Magdeburg (9) has.

Nine goals from Casper Mortensen

Up until a week ago, Mannheim had only lost seven points, but then they lost to Leipzig and now also to Hamburg – sensitive setbacks in the fight for the championship. The Hamburgers, who had been in the lead for large parts, are continuing their very successful season so far and are happily climbing up to seventh place in the upper middle of the table.

The best thrower for Torsten Jansen’s team was left winger Casper Mortensen, who scored nine goals in nine attempts. For the hosts, right winger Patrick Groetzki was the most successful scorer with six goals, Gensheimer also scored six goals. Hamburg’s veteran goalkeeper Jogi Bitter also played a key role, deflecting three penalty kicks, among other things.
