Finally a goal in the Bundesliga again! The 1-1 draw in Wolfsburg ended Union’s goalless streak of three games in a row.
Juranovic converts a penalty kick in the 72nd minute and keeps the Köpenickers hoping for the Champions League!
After the Europa League draw against Saint-Gilloise (3:3), coach Urs Fischer changes his starting XI to three positions: Gießelmann, Laidouni and Michel replace Trimmel, Haberer and Behrens (all initially on the bench).
The recently injured Roussillon first takes a seat on the bench and is officially adopted by VfL before the game. The Frenchman moved from Wolfsburg to Berlin during the winter break.
In attack, Michel gets – for the second time this Bundesliga season – the chance to show himself from the start. And Michel is there immediately. First his header goes over the goal (2nd), then his shot (5th). And Wolfsburg? Svanberg’s free-kick hits the crossbar (15′) – lucky for Union! Just like just before the break, when Marmoush runs towards goalkeeper Rönnow alone, but his shot goes wide (45′).
There is a bit of excitement shortly before: First Doekhi has to be treated for adductor problems (36′), then Gießelmann suddenly complains of stomach problems. The left-back goes to the edge of the field, chokes – and continues.
After the break, the whole game doesn’t really get any better. Because Wolfsburg’s Guilavogui Laidouni fouls in the penalty area, there’s a penalty. Juranovic transformed. Finally another goal for the irons. The sixth of 11 penalties Union converted this season. Everything looks like victory.
Too bad: Joker Wimmer, who was substituted by Wolfsburg coach Nico Kovac, still makes it 1-1 (84th).
In the end, both teams share the points. Finally a fair result.
