When we talk about mental health there are many factors involved. But the main one is work on oneself.

Mental health care (with therapy, therapeutic writing, reading on topics that interest us, exercises that promote brain gymnastics) goes hand in hand with a well-being that promotes and lays the foundations for a healthy relationship with oneself and with others. around. A relationship in which there is harmony, reciprocity, without being overwhelmed or taken over by the other.

What does that involve? Many of the issues that are seen in the current clinic have to do with the difficulty in setting limits to that other that many times “overpowers us”, which ends up generating stress in the body. Taking a term from Dr. Marian Rojas Estape, “it intoxicates us with cortisol.”

Being intoxicated with cortisol implies that in situations of great stress, and the increase in cortisol in our body, we are left with low defenses and more prone to getting sick.

But if we think about it… What is it that poisons us with cortisol? Is it the other (my job, my boss, my partner, my children) or is it the way I live and decode what I think and feel?

The value we give to things is what will put a particular issue or another in first place. This “assessment” that we give has to do with our personal history and is what is worked on in therapy.

How do I, first of all, to realize what I give more importance to and what entity takes that other based on my assessment.

When we feel that we are stuck, stuck without being able to make decisions, our stress level grows because we don’t know how to get ahead. And it is there that many times you go to therapy. To be able to run from that place that causes us discomfort.

Taking care of our mental health is promoting mental and emotional well-being. Taking care of our thoughts, working on our emotional intelligence that will help us make conscious decisions, being able to set healthy limits towards the environment.
