Blur album cover
There was magic in the game: “Song 2” lasts 2:02 minutes and of course stayed at number 2 in the UK charts.
And yet everything spoke against Blur: college rock was as out as its pioneer Pavement, the role models of guitarist Graham Coxon. In 1997 Nu Metal was already on the horizon.
From fools’ freedom, Blur created psychedelic Beatles anthems with feedback (“Beetlebum”), a Major Tom who seems to have arrived (“Strange News From Another Star”), and vaudeville starring Albarn as the circus master from Hell (” Theme From Retro”).
Rival Noel Gallagher classified the success in his judge’s way: “‘Song 2’ is good, ‘Beetlebum’ is great.”
