Remon makes 100,000 euro can of caviar: lid with gold and diamonds

A very exclusive can of caviar is being worked on in a small industrial area on the edge of Erp. The lid is a true work of art, with more than 210 diamonds and gold details. Remon van Zoggel (38) from Schijndel is the inventor of the 100,000 euro tin.

Last year entrepreneur and millionaire Salar Azimi came to the Dutch Deco Factory in Erp. He wanted owner Remon to design an exclusive caviar tin, one that exudes luxury and can become all the rage in luxury resorts such as Monaco and Miami and in discotheques. “I thought about it for a while. After two months I had a design and he was immediately enthusiastic,” says Van Zoggel.

It ended up being the most expensive jar of caviar in the world, if we are to believe Azimi. A kilo of caviar quickly costs between 4500 and 45,000 euros. Add to that gold and diamonds and you have a look of a ton.

In Erp, the lids with two sturgeon, a crown and weapon on top are cast and provided with 24-carat gold. All manual work. The diamonds are then glued onto the lid one by one with tweezers in Uden. “Once the can is empty, you can keep it as an art object,” says Van Zoggel. “Or you can turn the diamonds into a ring.”

Ten of these very expensive jars have already been made and placed in a safe in a secret place. “Nothing has been sold yet, but there are already contacts with Dubai,” says Van Zoggel. One can has already gone to Princess Beatrix, a present for her 84th birthday.

At Dutch Deco Factory they are not surprised by an exclusive and expensive design. For example, Van Zoggel worked for Lady Gaga last October. For the presentation of her champagne brand, he designed a pop-up store made with 3D printers.

The story of Van Zoggel can be called bizarre. Nine years ago he was still a plasterer. But a cement allergy put an end to that. “My hands were completely broken from the cement.” He started designing and working with liquid metal. His breakthrough was the Karma Gun, a gun made of plastic with a metal coating. This made Remon van Zoggel world famous.

Now the 38-year-old Schijndelaar makes (art) objects for, among others, Nike, De Efteling, Disney and a TomTom. While a foreign customer is leaving, Van Zoggel has some time for Omroep Brabant to show ‘his’ caviar. When we walk through his office and factory you can hear him say: ‘Look, this is special. But you can’t write anything about that, those are still secret assignments.” Van Zoggel mentions one big brand after another, companies that are all in line at the Schijndelaar.

Meanwhile, office worker Ramona has to step in to provide the cans of caviar with gold. Because millionaire Azimi has already placed an order for a hundred cans of caviar. This time not that one ton, but a ‘cheaper’ variant. Because if you think 100,000 euros is too much, you pay ‘only’ 30,000 euros for 250 grams.
