It stormed on the EUREF campus on Torgauer Strasse. Whether it was also stormy between CDU & SPD? “We also laughed,” says CDU leader Kai Wegner (50).
The fact is: another round between black and red is planned for Friday. That’s it then for the time being between the election winner CDU and the crashing loser Franziska Giffey (44, SPD).
The Greens are still very popular with Wegner. “I’m really looking forward to Wednesday,” he says with a poker face. Then black and green meet again.
Wegner: “And then we ultimately have to evaluate where we have more in common, where we see the trust so strong that we can really move the city forward.” In the coming week it should be clear who will start formal coalition negotiations with whom.
On Monday, the second CDU/SPD round was spent for six hours, warmed up with lentil soup in between. The negotiators failed in three areas: health, science and finance.
The continue-so partners (SPD, Greens, Left), on the other hand, meet on Tuesday afternoons. “We will analyze with the existing coalition partners what actually happened there,” said Giffey. All three governing parties have lost votes. But in Parliament they have the most MPs behind them.
Giffey: “It’s not about positions. It’s about the best path for our city.”
The final official election result is also eagerly awaited on Monday. The SPD and the Greens are currently separated by just over a hundred votes in the scramble for second and third place.
