Shot put, Ryan Crouser’s world record: 23.38

The 30-year-old American, two Olympic gold medalists and reigning world champion, improved on the record he already held

American double Olympic champion Ryan Crouser improved his shot put world record with a throw of 23.38 meters, achieved during the Simplot Games in Idaho, USA. His throw, during an indoor meeting, cancels the previous record of 23 m 37 set outdoors. The measure, also the result of a new technique, therefore increases by one centimeter the best world performance ever, which was achieved at the 2021 Trials in Eugene, in preparation for the Tokyo Games.

The 30-year-old weightlifter from Portland threw the 7.2-kilogram ball over 23 meters for the seventh time in his career. In Ryan’s palmares, the under 18 world championship gold conquered in Italy (in Bressanone), the double Olympic title (Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020) and the outdoor world gold in Eugene 2022. In 40 years, the jet world record of weight has been improved by over a meter going from 22.22 meters of the East German, Udo Beyer of 25 June 1983 to today’s 23.38.
