Liberation Festival Drenthe adds blues stage

Blues music will receive special attention at the upcoming edition of the Liberation Festival in Drenthe. The organization of the event allows several artists to perform on a real blues stage.

The line-up of the Liberation Festival was announced last month. Maan, Waylon, Jannes and 10CC, among others, will come to the Baggelhuizerplas on 5 May. John Klad, regular visitor and frontman of the Cat Fever Band, then contacted the organization. He asked them why no blues was programmed.

“‘Assen is a blues city, but I don’t see any of that at the festival’, John stated. And he had, emphatically, a point,” the organization reports. “John was then asked, partly in view of his knowledge as a blues musician, to make a proposal about how he sees the interpretation and a new stage has actually been added to the festival with sounding names.”

The Erwin Java Travel Party will be the first to perform on the special blues stage on May 5 from 5.30 pm. Together with Erwin Nijhoff, they perform songs from Cuby + Blizzards. Then it’s Lefthand Freddy’s turn, followed by John Klad’s Cat Fever Band. From 10 p.m. it’s up to The Side Kicks to close the evening on the blues stage.

The event has been taking place at its current location for ten years now. Also this year the Liberation Festival in Assen is freely accessible.
