With too many long-lived acts, new records are little more than cues to get the machinery started again. At the concerts, you furtively look at the clock when something comes from the current album. Oh well. Deichkind should have arrived at this stage in their career long ago – the music just doesn’t reflect it. NEWS FROM THE DAUERSTATE, it has to be said so clearly, is a fantastic release that uses its own trademark sound with relish and expands it imaginatively.

The time of the triangles seems to have passed, in the artfully cool videos you mainly see Philipp Grütering, the linchpin of the electro rock collective. The previously released “In der Natur” set standards in terms of meme-capable punchlines and pointed civilization neuroses last year.
Even more quotable lines than there were in the early Simpsons seasons
And while this band seemingly armored through the decades undamaged, aging is a recurring theme on the record. Most evident in the track “Kids in my age,” which leads, among other things, to the line “Rest in Fleece.” NEWS FROM THE PERMANENT STATE is simply a record with even more quotable lines than there were in the early Simpsons seasons.
It should therefore only be mentioned that the cheesy Italo chanson trend, which recently culminated in the success of Roy Bianco & Die Abbrunzati Boys, is now also making its way through the Deichkind mill. This can be heard in the (here already predicted) summer hit 2023 “Lecko Mio”. If you only listen to one record this year you should really be wondering what’s wrong with it – but definitely get this one.
