The Swedish clothing supplier Filippa K can come up with a sustainable innovation in the future. “Filippa K will be the first brand to present a new recycled and recyclable material in its spring-summer 2024 collection this fall in collaboration with Södra, Lenzing and Riopele,” the company announced on Tuesday.
The “revolutionary pilot fiber” is “made from a combination of textile waste and wood cellulose,” explained Filippa K. It was developed by the Austrian fiber producer Lenzing AG and the Swedish pulp manufacturer Södra, who are working together on innovative textile recycling processes as part of a partnership concluded in 2021. The Portuguese fabric manufacturer Riopele was also involved in the development of the materials that will now be used for the first time in Filippa K.
Jodi Everding, Vice President Sustainability at Filippa K, responsible for the label’s sustainability projects, praised the innovative collaboration. “We are very pleased to be the first brand to develop products based on OnceMore pulp and Lenzing’s Refibra technology, supported by Riopele’s creative expertise in yarn and fabric production,” she said in a statement. “Collaboration is an essential step in the sustainable transformation of industry. For us at Filippa K, it is important to partner with like-minded partners who are innovative in their fields.”
Robert van de Kerkhof, Chief Commercial Officer Fiber of the Lenzing Group, also emphasized the collaborative approach. “One company alone cannot solve the urgent problem of textile waste. It is proactive partnerships like this that allow us to move forward and create real systemic change,” he said.
