Tooor for 1. FC Heidenheim 1846, 2-0 by Jan Schöppner
The Rothosen are visibly impressed by the deficit and promptly concede their second goal within three minutes. Busch runs behind Schonlau, gets the ball and then crosses almost perfectly to the second post, where Schöppner steals away. Heading the ball over the line from almost five meters is the easiest exercise in this powerful attack. The Swabians make it 2-0.

Tooor for 1. FC Heidenheim 1846, 1:0 by Jan-Niklas Beste
With a really crooked thing, the FCH is now 1-0 in the lead. Kleindienst played the ball cleverly from the right wing into the backcourt, where Thomalla half-threw himself into the tackle to press the ball onto goal. However, he misses the ball, which turns into an awkward bounce towards the far post. There Beste is spot on and gives the ball the final touch. Nothing to do for Heuer Fernandes.

Thomalla doesn’t get through the opponent’s sixteen, but with a bit of luck a rebound finds Kleindienst, who from six meters no longer brings control to the header. Heuer Fernandes catches the ball easily.

Defensively, the Baden-Württembergers are currently not letting too much burn. Again and again, all passing stations are effectively blocked, so that HSV cannot gain space in the opposing third. This is also the case with the Heyer throw-in, who has to hesitate for a long time with the execution and then sends rice deep. However, Föhrenbach shields well and gets the kick out.

Good chance for the Swabians! After winning the ball, Busch has a lot of space in the center on the right wing. Instead of the high flank, however, the pass comes into the back room, where nobody is at Pick. From 14 meters, the 27-year-old can close flat with the left. Heuer Fernandes is down in time, but can only bounce frontally. But there is no Heidenheimer there, so the HSV defense can clear the corner, which then fizzles out.

On the other hand, Kleindienst extended a strong pass into Thomalla’s run, who had a clear shot at the edge of the penalty area. The right-footed shot slips easily over the instep. The ball clearly misses.

Jean-Luc Dompé has space on the left wing, but all the passing stations are blocked. On suspicion, he simply hits the leather up into the box, where Kevin Müller can safely catch the shot.

Schöppner claims the ball strongly in the center and passes to Pick. Busch runs behind, gets the ball and then crosses sharply in the direction of the second post. A bit too steep though. The leather sails into the gate.

Beste makes a few meters on the left wing and then curls the flank sharply and dangerously onto the back post, where Kleindienst just misses. Schonlau clears the corner, which then also has it all. Mainka heads just over the first post from seven yards.

Post for Hamburg! Glatzel pulls away from the second row and initially the right-footed shot from 17 meters looks harmless, but then turns towards the goal with a lot of spin and smacks the right post. Lucky for the FCH. Müller could not have intervened in this hidden conclusion.

The first five minutes are over and the top game is still in the sampling phase. The mutual nervousness is reflected in many slight bad passes in the build-up game.

Heuer Fernandes is well in front of his own goal, which is why Beste simply shoots from a good 40 meters on the left wing. However, the shot clearly misses the box to the right.

game start
20:04
Heidenheim has lost the last two league games against Hamburg. At least in their own stadium, things didn’t go badly for the Baden-Württembergers against the North Germans. In four home games in the 2nd Bundesliga, FCH has never lost against the Rothosen (two wins, two draws). Overall, HSV, who also won the first leg 1-0, leads the direct comparison with four wins from nine meetings.
19:54
Both FCH and HSV have a first-class offensive. Only SC Paderborn scored more goals (40) than Heidenheim and Hamburg (both 35) in the second Bundesliga this season. However, the Brenz kickers have been waiting for another goal against the Hanseatic League for a total of four second division games. The Swabians have not gone through such a long lull against any other second division team before.
19:48
Both teams are in their element tonight. While 1. FC Heidenheim is the best home team in the 2nd Bundesliga with 23 out of a possible 27 points, Hamburger SV leads the away table. No other second league team has clinched more wins (seven) and points (21) than the Hanseatic League, who, with only nine goals conceded in nine away games, also bring the best away defense in the 2nd league to the Ostalb.
19:41
Hamburger SV didn’t miss a beat in last Sunday’s 2-0 away win in Rostock and secured their third three-pointer in a row. Coach Tim Walter sees no reason for changes with regard to this series, but has to react to the absence of Jonas David (hip problems). Javi Montero replaces him in central defence. It is the only change in the Hanseatic League.
19:38
Let’s look at the lineups right at the start. FCH lost 2-0 away at Eintracht Braunschweig last Saturday. Coach Frank Schmidt is reacting to this result with two changes today: Marnon Busch and Florian Pick are preferred to Kevin Sessa and Marvin Rittmüller (both bench).
19:36
In terms of the table, the current third in the table meets the current number two. So much is at stake. With a home win, 1. FC Heidenheim could come back within a point of HSV. The guests from the north, on the other hand, could increase their lead in third place to seven points with an away win and also overtake the current leaders Darmstadt 98 at least overnight.
19:30
Good evening and welcome from the Voith Arena. Here, 1. FC Heidenheim welcomes Hamburger SV at 8:30 p.m. today as part of the 20th matchday of the 2nd Bundesliga.
