A court in Moscow today sentenced Sergey Foergal, the former governor of the Khabarovsk region in Russia’s far east, to 22 years in prison. He was on trial for his involvement in the assassinations of two rival entrepreneurs, the Russian news agency Interfax reported. His impeachment by the Kremlin in 2020 sparked months of demonstrations. Many demonstrators view the Foergal trial as politically motivated.
