Magdeburg’s handball players have to do without Saugstrup for months

As if Omar Ingi Magnusson’s absence for months wasn’t painful enough, SC Magdeburg now has to cope with Magnus Saugstrup’s end of the season. The Dane, who suffered a serious knee injury against Kiel, has already had an operation.

As feared, SC Magdeburg has to do without its Danish world champion Magnus Saugstrup for months. As the club announced, the 26-year-old had surgery on his right knee on Tuesday (February 7).

SCM: Magnusson’s failure also hurts

The precise diagnosis of the injury suffered by the line runner two days earlier during the dramatic 35:34 quarterfinal victory in the DHB Cup away against defending champion THW Kiel in extra time was not announced. The club stated three to four months downtime, leaving Saugstrup unable to return to the plate for the reigning German champions and club world champions this season. It is still unclear whether the SCM will be active again on the transfer market.

It is already the second failure of a top performer in Magdeburg. Before that, goalkeeper Omar Ingi Magnusson was out of the season due to a heel injury. As a result, the SCM with the obligation of Vladan Lipovina by Bundesliga competitor HSG Wetzlar.

Magdeburg in three more competitions

As early as tomorrow, Wednesday, Saxony-Anhalt will find out who they will meet in the semi-finals of the Cup Final4. Flensburg-Handewitt, Rhein-Neckar Löwen and TBV Lemgo are waiting in the lottery pot.
