Officers saw a woman and child running along the A16 highway on Saturday evening. They turned out to be from a car that had crashed into a lamppost next to the road shortly before.

When the alerted officers arrived at the scene of the accident – where no other traffic was involved – they saw no one else in the car. The car was badly damaged. Officers suspected that the seat belts in the car had not been used.

Child in panic
A short time later, other officers saw two people running along the highway. Finally, they found them upstairs at the highway entrance. The woman was visibly injured. The boy panicked and kept crying.

One of the officers then gave the child a so-called trauma bear. The boy then calmed down and a smile appeared on his face. After that, according to the officers, he was mainly concerned with the question of what he would call the hug.

Under the influence
The woman told officers she was the driver of the crashed car. She was then tested for alcohol and drug use. It turned out that she was indeed under the influence. The woman and child were then taken to a hospital. There, blood was taken from the woman for further testing.

“In view of all the signals we had at that time and the serious concerns we were concerned about the well-being of the child, we immediately reported the situation to Safe at Home,” the police said. “We, as well as the hospital, are legally obliged to do this if we are concerned about the environment in which a minor is located. Veilig Thuis has taken up the situation with urgency and is investigating everything.”
