Serie B, Modena-Cagliari 2-0: goals from Diaw and Bonfanti

A penalty scored by Diaw and a goal by Bonfanti deliver the three points to Modena ahead of the 23rd matchday of the championship. At Braglia, Cagliari ends up knocked out on a Friday night with a view to the playoffs. Tesser’s team is momentarily ninth with 31 points, the Sardinians in sixth place are just a point ahead. Shortly before the break, the guests remained in ten due to the dubious expulsion of captain Rog: already booked. In the second half they fail to be dangerous, so the defeat comes after four useful results in a row: the first with Ranieri on the bench. All the others are on the field at the weekend. The match begins at a slow pace. In the 5th minute Diaw shows up in attack with a header that goes high. In the 15th minute Rog was booked for a hard intervention on Poli. On the developments of the free-kick comes the first real chance of the match: it is Poli himself who kicks from over twenty-five meters, a shot blocked in two stages by Radunovic. In the 21st minute the Gialloblù put pressure on the opposing defence. Falcinelli headed in after Ponsi’s cross. After two minutes, the usual Falcinelli falls in the area for a clash with Makoumbou. Only Tesser’s formation plays in the second half, strong in numerical superiority. In the 48th minute Giovannini had a good chance, deflected by Radunovic for a corner. In the 51st minute Cittadini almost doubled his header, the goalkeeper’s response was good but the referee stopped everything for offside. In the 60th minute, Falcinelli creates problems for the Sardinian defence, his shot goes high. It’s practically a siege: four minutes later, Tremolada serves Magnino who kicks from the high deflection limit. In the 70th minute Prelec tries to show himself timidly in attack, the Gialloblù rearguard holds. In the 80th minute Ionita takes aim, deflected for a corner by Dossena. Bonfanti takes care of closing the game in the 83rd minute: good left foot to puncture Radunovic’s hands. Sixth goal in the league for the striker born in ’02. The Cagliari goalkeeper saved what could be saved and in the 92nd minute rejected Tremolada. Modena wins again after the away defeat against Ternana.
