Very strong season opening by Lieke Klaver: personal indoor record and European Championship ticket

Lieke Klaver has had an excellent start to the indoor season. The 24-year-old athlete from Enkhuizen set a new personal best in the 400 meters indoor in her first race. In Ostrava, Czech Republic, Klaver ran to victory in 51.00 seconds and grabbed a European Championship ticket.

Klaver left the competition behind in Ostrava. Lada Vondrová was second in 51.57 ahead of England’s Jessie Knight (52.73).

Isayah Boers was the fastest in the men’s 400 meters. With his time of 46.36 seconds, he was only one hundredth short of the European Championship limit (46.35). However, the Phanos athlete was already qualified for the tournament.

Nadine Visser came into action in Ostrava for the second time this indoor season. Last weekend, the Hoogkarspelse already recorded a time of 7.93 seconds. Things went a bit slower in the Czech Republic, because Visser ran three hundredths slower than in Germany. Nevertheless, Visser only had to tolerate the American Alaysha Johnson (7.87).

The limit for the European Indoor Championships in Istanbul is 52.20 seconds. The European Indoor Championships will take place in the Turkish capital from 2 to 5 March.
