The USA and Italy are in the first held United Cup of tennis pros in the final.
In the semi-finals, the American team easily defeated Poland 5-0, while Italy beat Greece 3-1. The final mixed match was meaningless after Lucia Bronzetti scored the decisive third point for Italy with a clear 6:2, 6:3 against Valentini Grammatikopoulou.
The USA had previously had no trouble against Poland. Led by Jessica Pegula and Frances Tiafoe, the American team prevailed 5-0, confirming their role as favorites for Sunday’s final.
Germany eliminated in the group stage
The German team with Alexander Zverev was eliminated in the group stage after two defeats. In the competition, which was held for the first time, there are two men’s and two women’s singles as well as one mixed game per game. The tournament, in which world ranking points are also awarded, serves as preparation for the Australian Openbeginning January 16 in Melbourne.
