The man who was arrested as a suspect after the murder of Migos rapper Takeoff is free again – at least for the time being. He was released from custody in Houston, Texas, on bail of one million euros. However, he is not really allowed to move freely until the trial begins: he is under 24-hour surveillance, wears a GPS sensor and has to undergo regular drug and alcohol tests. According to the court, alcohol had an influence on the alleged crime.
In early December, the suspect in the murder of Migos rapper Takeoff was arrested. As “TMZ” reported, the chief of the Houston Police Department had arrested a 33-year-old man who had been charged with murder. He also confirmed that a 22-year-old man had been arrested the previous month and charged with unlawful possession of a weapon.
Takeoff, part of the rap trio Migos, was shot dead at a Houston bowling alley on November 1, 2022. Kirshnik Khari Ball, as Takeoff’s real name was, was 28 years old. He himself was not directly involved in the argument that led to the shooting, he just stood nearby.
Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner said in December, “Takeoff was more than just an entertainer. He was a son, brother, cousin, friend — and a mentor to many in the music industry.” He was pleased that a suspect had been arrested and assured that it would bring some comfort to the victim’s family, even if Takeoff did wouldn’t come back. “This is a significant step in the quest for justice, and I hope it brings some grief to those who loved Takeoff,” Turner said.
Police are said to have tracked down the suspect through reconstruction of the shooting and ballistics evidence. The evaluation of mobile phone data and material from surveillance cameras is said to have helped.
After the arrest, the accused had his lawyers informedthat he did not fatally fire on Takeoff. His lawyer told the court that her client was nervous and concerned that he was being charged with an act he believed he did not commit.
