One win from the last 10 games
According to consistent media reports, second division team Fortuna Düsseldorf is separating from its coach Christian Preusser. This was reported on Monday evening, citing their own information, both the Cologne “express‘ as well as the ‘image“-Newspaper. Accordingly, the Rhinelanders already have a successor who will be presented on Tuesday: the former Osnabrück and HSV coach Daniel Thioune.
Preusser, whose contract runs until June 30, 2023, only took over as coach in Düsseldorf last summer. Since then, the 38-year-old has only managed five wins and five draws in 21 competitive games, which corresponds to an average of 0.95 points per game. On Sunday, the Fortune lost 1-0 to Holstein Kiel and slipped to 15th place in the table. The team has only won one game in their last ten games.

Even before last weekend, fans of the club had called for the coach to be fired in view of the sporting downturn. The original goal of Düsseldorf at the beginning of the season was the promotion places. On Tuesday, the second division could even slip down to the relegation place if SV Sandhausen win their catch-up game against KSC.
Fortuna Düsseldorf would be Thioune’s third stop as head coach
The potential successor Thioune was released in May last year after only 32 competitive games at Düsseldorf league rivals Hamburger SV (points average 1.63). Previously, he had coached VfL Osnabrück for almost three years and led Lower Saxony back to the 2nd Bundesliga in 2019. Thioune, like Preußer’s predecessor Uwe Rösler, was last traded at Hannover 96 before Christoph Dabrowski took over the post of head coach from Jan Zimmermann.
