Galtier “very happy” with PSG squad – Bitshiabu should not be blocked

Paris Saint-Germain’s head coach Christophe Galtier does not expect any serious squad changes in winter. The 56-year-old revealed that his club would only upgrade if something happened on the part of the departures (quoted via “L’Equipe”) ahead of the away game at RC Lens on New Year’s Day at 8.45pm. But it doesn’t look like that at the moment either.

“I am very happy and satisfied with the squad that I have. There will be no new arrivals if there are no departures,” explained Galtier, who leads the table in Ligue 1 with his team by seven points, with a view to the opening transfer market. “There are no players who have asked to change. This means that the players feel comfortable here. It’s a long time, we’ll have to see how things develop.”

The Frenchman coaches the third most valuable squad in the world at PSG with a team value of 914.55 million euros – only Manchester City (1.11 billion euros) and FC Bayern (933.7 million euros) rank ahead of the Parisians, who are in Champions -League Round of 16 in February and March once again meet Munich.

According to Galtier, a new defender is not an option because he thinks highly of 17-year-old El Chadaille Bitshiabu. The youngster was last allowed to play 79 minutes in the league against RC Strasbourg Alsace (2-1) – further appearances have now been promised. “He has enormous potential. We have high hopes for him. Bringing in a defender would mean blocking space for him. We want to promote our local talents,” emphasized Galtier.

Last summer, the club, which has been striving for the “premier league” title for years, spent 147.5 million euros on newcomers, including the most expensive purchase Vitinha (22; 41.5 million euros transfer fee). Only six clubs invested even more in new players. This was offset by EUR 54.3 million for player sales.
