The possibilities of the camper world are more and more extensive. The fans have grown exponentially in recent years, a trend that began to stand out after the lockdowns and the post-covid summer. The possibility of travel at your leisure, without time limits and far from the crowds, has focused on a segment valued for its versatility. Some qualities that the firms also transfer to their new electric commercial vehicles, as is the case of the Mercedes-Benz EQT and its future variant Camper Concept EQT Marco Polo1.
The zero-emissions proposals for the T-Class will make the definitive leap into camper life during the second half of 2023, so that they will first incorporate into the range EQT the Marco Polo Module. This piece of furniture is capable of solving the needs of a weekend getaway without giving up the practicality, savings and sustainability of a vehicle for every day. Klaus Rehkugler, Head of Sales at Mercedes-Benz Vans, introduced it as “a first and simple electrical solution for fans of camping, which will be available soon”.
close to production
As Klaus Rehkugler stated: “The Concept EQT Marco Polo already hints at the next series-production vehicle.” A promise that, in view of the leaked images, we hope will come true. especially for him daring and innovation that we see in your cabin, distributed in a curious and different way than usual.
Logically, the Concept EQT Marco Polo includes a pop-up roof with a bed and its height is considerable. Thanks to the scissor design (it also rises from the front) it would allow us to stand inside the EQT, a functional solution that will give us comfort on our getaways. All this without losing sight of the fact that the bed is upstairs, so 1.97 m long by 0.97 meters wide and gradually elastic springs, a design that other firms have decided to adopt in their beds.
Best of all, however, is found inside. As he commented, modularity is one of the keys to this prototype, which has a folding structure in the rear area to sleep two other people on a bunk 2 meters high by 1.15 m wide. When driving, the bed frame with the folded mattress is located in the load compartment so that the rear seats can be used without restriction. In addition, and as a curious solution, behind the driver’s seat we find a specific hole to install a chemical toilet recessed and one refrigerator with compressor of 16 liters.
In the area of the rear seats it offers sufficient storage space. storage for a couple, one Induction plaque and a pull-out drawer inside with removable gas camping. On the right side of the cabin we will find a folding table and other spaces to store kitchen utensils or luggage.
For each day
The Mercedes EQT is a vehicle for daily use, so that, in order to take advantage of its load capacity, the Interior furniture of the Concept EQT Marco Polo1 is removable. His image has been designed to integrate into an avant-garde, elegant business model that is very close to the aesthetics of a car. It can be seen in the choice of Arctic Microcut for a large part of its elements, which combines perfectly with the furniture finished in Avola cherry wood.
As for the exterior, this prototype EQT sports the tone Chromite Gray metallic with contrasting elements in glossy blackhow can they be specific 19-inch wheels. It is curious to see the solar panel on the folding roof, in charge together with the additional and removable battery to self-supply users during certain days. In this way, traveling with the future EQT Marco Polo would be possible, taking into account its 100% electric propulsion.
In the meantime…
This prototype isn’t ready for production yet, but many are calling for a campervan over the Mercedes-Benz EQT. For those who don’t want to wait, or are one of the first to order in 2023, the firm will make the Marco Polo Module available to the client. This solution, available for the electric minivan of 4.49 meters long, 1.85 m wide and 1.81 m highwill allow them to make outdoor trips through drawers that open from the tailgate.
Placing the modules in this rear area provides interior space for a bed, forcing the use of storage elements. camping on the perimeter of the vehicle. I speak, for example, of the sink, the portable refrigerator. camping gas and other cabinets to store household items and luggage.
In other words, a model for every day with the possibility of being autonomous during good weather and all this without polluting. The Mercedes-EQT will be launched with a 90 kW (122 hp) engine) and a maximum torque of 245 Nm, together with a battery of 45 kWh of useful capacity that contribute 282 kilometers of autonomy in WLTP cycle. It can be charged at 22 kW with alternating current (AC) or in a direct current socket of 80 kW, reducing its charging time to 38 minutes from 10% to 80%.
