‘This is a very big disappointment’

A big downer for Gordon: his new program with Herman den Blijker, called Kookklunzen, started as a flop. “This is a very big disappointment,” says Tina Nijkamp.

The cooking klutz from Gordon’s new program of the same name does not help the viewing figures of SBS 6 out of the fire. It is yet another flop for the channel: 382 thousand viewers (8 percent market share) watched the premiere episode yesterday, good for the very last place in the daily viewing figure top 25.

Big disappointment

This is really not good, says former SBS 6 boss Tina Nijkamp. She is currently active as a viewing figure analyst and finds this score quite painful. “Prior to De Oranjewinter, it is again very hard to cry with the cap on for SBS 6 with the new Kookklunzen. Last year there was a Christmas special and now a whole series.”

The result is not good. “It is unbelievable but true: the umpteenth format this year that does not score on SBS 6. And so also the comeback of Gordon and Herman den Blijker (has not been on TV for a year) is a very, very big disappointment. The competition was (almost) non-existent.”

RTL 4 flops harder

According to Tina, Gordon scores so lousy with virtually no competition. She points out that yesterday was a rest day at the Football World Cup and that the major commercial competitor, RTL 4, was hardly in the way either.

Tina: “RTL 4 had traded in the successful Secret Duets (unexpectedly, ed.) to promote Videoland. That also flopped: only 341 and 263 thousand viewers for the Sleepers series. Ouch. Next time something like this will take place on RTL 5.”

The prime time winners were NPO 1’s Best Singers KiKa with 1.3 million viewers (28 percent) and SBS 6’s De Oranjewinter with 1.1 million viewers (25 percent).

Attack of Boulevard

If the low ratings don’t hit Gordon hard enough, he is also being attacked by RTL Boulevard. The largest show column in the country headlines: ‘Viewers fillet cooking show Gordon: ‘Absolute low point’. “The criticism of the cooking show is not tender in advance, but is completely burned down by viewers after the first episode.”

One of the reactions cited by Boulevard reads: “Angela de Jong was right. Cooking klunzen becomes the absolute low point of SBS 6. Herman den Blijker has not only lost his stars, but also his dignity as a respected TV chef. And Gordon… that man is already a paragon of dredge TV. Sad.
