Status: 11/27/2022 10:50 p.m

The German women’s national basketball team has achieved its third victory in the European Championship qualifier.

The German selection clearly won on Sunday (November 27th, 2022) in Skopje North Macedonia with 71:47 (27:35). Especially in the final quarter, the German basketball players were clearly superior to the hosts and deservedly won. The best thrower was Leonie Fiebich with 23 points. The 22-year-old also got 13 rebounds and four steals.

The German selection needed a little time to get into the game in the sparsely occupied Kale Sports Hall in Skopje. However, North Macedonia was not able to play decisively either. The first quarter was balanced. After that, the Germans lost the thread. Too many balls didn’t find their way into the basket at the front, and the hosts couldn’t be disturbed enough at the back. The receipt was only nine own points.

Defensive victory

After the break, the guests acted more compelling again. The German selection went into the final quarter with a small lead. There the team of coach Walt Hopkins laid the foundation for success on the defensive. North Macedonia only managed three points, while Germany had 25.

The remaining two European Championship qualifiers against Belgium and in Bosnia and Herzegovina will take place in February 2023. The winners of the ten qualifying groups and the four best runners-up will qualify for the European Championship, which will be held in Israel and Slovenia in 2023. A German women’s national team last took part in a European Championship in 2011.
