Twenty-year-old driver injured in traffic accident in Wevelgem

The young man from Roeselare was driving on the highway towards Bruges when he lost control of the steering wheel at the start of the tunnel and crashed into the tunnel wall. His car swerved and landed on the side a little further on.

The driver was able to escape from the car on his own and was first taken care of by emergency services at the scene. Moments later, he was taken to hospital by ambulance.

Due to the accident, the right and center lanes were temporarily closed to traffic. This did not cause any major traffic disruption. Traffic towards Bruges was able to pass at a slower speed in the left lane.
