Refreshed city museum Ostend reopens with new exhibition
A total of approximately 125,000 euros worth of renovation work was carried out in the City Museum. The largest budget went to painting and repairing the roofs and gutters. The City of Ostend also provides another 30,000 euros for work to be carried out later, such as renovating the toilet area and painting the exterior joinery.
The museum can open its doors again this weekend. In addition to the beautiful permanent collection, the City Museum is also presenting a temporary exhibition ‘Ostend culinary on the menu’.
“With this exhibition, heemkring ‘De Plate’ wants to tell a number of unique stories about gastronomy in the City by the Sea and how it has evolved over time,” explains alderman for Culture Bart Plasschaert. “You can see authentic porcelain end menus from the 19th century, but also the history of the Ostend hospitality industry, the famous Ostend Hotel School, the competition ‘Prosper Montagné’, the Ostend oysters, the phenomenon of the guilder books… The exhibition shows a selection from the collection of heemkring ‘De Plate’ supplemented with objects from private collections and runs from February 5 to September 26, 2022.”
