US senators want investigation into Twitter | internet

The senators, including Senators Richard Blumenthal and Elizabeth Warren, are asking the FTC to consider sanctions against the company and individual executives.

“In recent weeks, Twitter’s new Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk has taken alarming steps that undermine the integrity and security of the platform and announced new features, despite clear warnings that those changes would be misused for fraud, scams and dangerous impersonation. Congressmen said in a letter to FTC Chairman Lina Khan.

Musk has only been at the helm of Twitter for two weeks, but that period has already been marked by rapid change and chaos. He immediately fired Twitter’s former CEO and other executives and also let go half of the staff earlier this month.

There are also now fears that Twitter will not honor the agreement it signed with the FTC in May 2022. Twitter then agreed to improve user privacy protections and hold people in certain positions accountable.

The FTC said last week that it “follows recent developments at Twitter with great concern. No CEO or company is above the law, and companies must abide by our agreements.
