timmylandWillem-Alexander says he is having a great time as king. “It’s so diverse and so much fun. It is never a grind”, said the monarch in the first episode of the VPRO youth program Timmyland that was shown tonight on NPO Zapp.
In the series, presenter Tim den Besten sets up his own country Timmyland and investigates everything that comes with it. In the first episode he had a conversation with Willem-Alexander at Huis ten Bosch Palace about what exactly the monarchy entails, but also about what the monarch himself thinks of his role.
According to the king, every day is different for him. “Every day you meet different people, every day you see different problems come along, every day you see fantastic things that happen,” he sums up. “The Netherlands is also a fantastic sports country and you can celebrate all those successes.”
Disappointments
It also includes ‘disappointments’. And disasters where you have to stop to comfort people. Every day is different.”
According to Willem-Alexander, Tim den Besten would ‘undoubtedly’ be a good king. ,,I assume that you are off to a good start with your serious preparations. But in the end, it’s not me who decides that, it’s the people of Timmyland.”
When the king explains to the presenter that he is not ‘the boss’ and that the Prime Minister and the ministers rule, Den Besten asks if he can contact Prime Minister Rutte on his behalf for an interview. “I’ll call him or better, I’ll text him on his old Nokia”, Willem-Alexander responded with a laugh. The conversation with Mark Rutte can be seen in next week’s episode.
