Brave Elaine (73) chases away shoplifter | Bizarre

The theft happened at a Walmart supermarket in Campbell River, western Canada. People in the neighborhood are already feeling a lot of frustration from a series of crimes, Maury Tire of the local police explains to Global News. He confirms the authenticity of the video and says that in December another man was arrested for stabbing a guard at the same store.

In the incident on January 29, a customer pulled out his smartphone when he saw the shoplifter leave with a full cart without paying. Elaine Gallaway (73) had also seen in the store how the man put roast in his backpack. She had already reported the incident to an employee, she tells. Still, the thief got ready to leave with his bicycle and the full cart, but she didn’t take it. “I’m tired of this bullshit”, you hear her say as she blocks the exit with her cart.

The woman managed to pull off the thief’s balaclava so that his face comes into view. “If the police have a clear picture of someone, they know which suspect to look for,” she says. In the end, the thief left without the cart, but still with his backpack full of roast. “The prices are rising for everything else because of you bastards”, Elaine bites him in the video.

Police’s Maury Tire advises people not to intervene in such incidents themselves, and refers to a shooting in December. But Elaine says she would do it again, although she doesn’t necessarily recommend it to others. In this case, she saw that the perpetrator could not immediately take a weapon because he was holding the cart with one hand and his bicycle with the other, she explains. She says she has built up her cool-headedness during her former job. “I was a bank clerk for 17 years and I’ve already been held at gunpoint,” it reads. Her old training before that “came up again”.
