For the launch of the new Asics x Solana UI collection, Japanese sporting goods retailer Asics has partnered with blockchain network provider Solana, taking a big step towards nurturing the Web3 community.
The “UI” part of the collection’s name stands for “User Interfaces”, the computer and phone screens that underlie the simple, Solana-inspired design. It is meant to symbolize a healthy balance between screen time and physical activity.
Customers automatically receive an Asics Loyalty Badge NFT with every custom GT-2000 11 running shoe. They also have a chance to airdrop a limited number of Asics x StepN GT-2000 NFTs.
Launched in 2021 by Find Satoshi Lab, StepN is a Web3 lifestyle app that combines game elements with sports. Gamers get a playful fitness experience whether they are familiar with Web3 or not.
The app promotes a healthy lifestyle and rewards players for their daily activity. Users equipped with NFT sneakers are rewarded for walking, jogging or running with in-game tokens that can be used in different ways.
“As a pioneer in this space, Asics is leading the industry in demonstrating how customers and brands can come together to create token-based experiences that deliver lasting e-benefits to both parties,” comments Josh Fried, Head of Payments Business Development at Solana Labs, in a statement.
“Furthermore, by using USDC payments on Solana Pay, Asics breaks down geographic barriers to facilitate transactions around the world and shows how much more is possible with Web3 Commerce,” adds Fried.
The GT-2000 11 performance running shoe is suitable for all fitness levels and is available in two individual designs: “Light Mode” and “Dark Mode”. It features a limited edition Solana color gradient on the heel and tongue and a breathable mesh upper that conforms to the natural shape of the foot.
“The reflective Asics badge on the heel marks the first time this icon has been placed on a physical Asics product,” the company said.
The shoes are available for 200 USDC digital dollar currency via Solana Pay and during a pre-order period until November 9th at 6:59am UTC.
