Zuivelcoöperatie FrieslandCampina annually discharges millions of liters of polluted water into the Wadden Sea, based on a permit that is due for revision. The environmental service of the province of Groningen has identified violations on several occasions in recent years and Rijkswaterstaat has meanwhile concluded that research has never been conducted into the effects of these discharges on the Wad.
