First coaching station
A little over four months after taking office, Carlos Tévez is leaving his first coaching position. The 38-year-old ex-Man United, Man City or Juventus striker announced his retirement from CA Rosario Central at a press conference on Thursday. The contract with the Argentine first division club, which ended the 2022 season in 20th place out of 28, originally ran until next summer. In 24 games, the club under Tévez scored an average of 1.17 points.
Tévez had previously insisted that he wanted to stay at Rosario Central beyond the season provided a competitive squad could be assembled for next year. Only on Thursday did the Argentines sell top talent Facundo Buonanotte (17) to Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion. In addition, Rosario Central will soon have presidential elections and a dispute is raging behind the scenes between the current club leadership and other groups.

Tévez said he had the club in mind when making his decision. “I don’t think it’s to anyone’s advantage if I continue. The new leadership or this leadership, if it stays, has to make decisions and I don’t want to be an obstacle for anyone,” said the ex-striker, who emphasized that he did not want to get involved in club politics. “The most normal and sensible thing I can do is step aside so that everyone can do what they want.” Tévez thanked the fans “who have supported me for almost five months”, his coaching team, the club staff and players. “I can’t thank everyone enough for their love, dedication and sacrifice over the past few months.”
