Hansa Rostock suspends trio around Thomas Meißner and Ridge Munsy

After just one win in eight games for FC Hansa Rostock in the 2nd Bundesliga, coach Jens Härtel reacted and suspended a trio for the time being. Central defender Thomas Meißner (31) and striker Ridge Munsy (33), who played in the 0-2 draw against 1. FC Kaiserslautern last matchday, as well as offensive talent Theo Martens (19) are released until the winter break.

“At this stage, the coach needs players who he trusts 100 percent to help him in the next four important games. He didn’t have that feeling with Munsy and Meißner,” explained sporting director Martin Pieckenhagen to the “picture“. The duo has to keep fit in the Hansa-Reserve from now on or they can go on vacation early. Martens is no longer there for disciplinary reasons. “There have been a couple of incidents in the last few weeks that I didn’t like. Theo now has time to recommend himself in the second with performances for the pros,” said Pieckenhagen.

Pieckenhagen does not want to allow a coaching discussion to arise. “He has been an important factor in recent years. We have always found a solution in uncomfortable situations. I am assuming that this will also be the case this time. Nervousness is not a good advisor in this phase,” said the 50-year-old about Haertel. The suspensions, on the other hand, are intended to send a clear signal.

“After the good start, we had hoped to keep scoring points, but reality caught up with us. Football is not a request concert. Anyone can beat anyone in this tight second division,” said Pieckenhagen, who wants to have 19 to 20 points by the end of the first half of the season – currently there are 14 points. “We are moving in a fairway that is narrow at the bottom. With one or two victories, the situation can quickly relax. Now it’s about scoring points against the teams around us and sailing in the right direction.”
