Bundesliga leaders Union Berlin lived up to their role as favorites and confidently reached the round of 16 in the DFB Cup against 1. FC Heidenheim.
Union Berlin won 2-0 (1-0) against second division club 1. FC Heidenheim with goals from Tymoteusz Puchacz (7th minute) and Sven Michel (52nd).
This puts the “iron” in the round of 16, which will be drawn on Sunday (7:15 p.m.) in the sports show.
Puchacz with an early goal for Berlin
In a strong initial phase, the Berliners successfully pressed the opening goal. Sheraldo Becker played perfectly from the goal line to Puchacz, who volleyed from a few meters to take the lead (7th). “If you want to cause a surprise here, you have to hold the zero much longer”said Heidenheim’s trainer Frank Schmidt on ARD radio.
Union had more chances, the guests only had chances towards the end of the first half.

Union also started the second half dominantly. Becker failed to hit goalkeeper Vitus Eicher with a low shot (47′), but then Michel increased it to 2-0 when he headed Eicher with an arc lamp (52′).
Heidenheim was only able to hold back something in the second half, the Bundesliga leaders acted like a top team and successfully played down the game.
Berlin now in Bochum, Heidenheim against Fürth
Union Berlin will play in the Bundesliga next Sunday (October 23rd, 2022, 3.30 p.m.) at VfL Bochum, Heidenheim will host SpVgg Greuther Fürth in the 2nd Bundesliga (1.30 p.m.).
