Serious damage after attacks on energy infrastructure in central Ukraine | War Ukraine and Russia

New Russian attacks on energy installations in the Dnipro region, in central Ukraine, have caused “serious destruction”. This was announced by the governor of the region, Valentin Reznitsenko. “The Russians have fired rockets at the energy infrastructure of the Pavlohrad and Kamjanske districts: there is serious destruction,” he said. Many villages are without electricity, according to Reznitsenko.

An energy-saving plan has been launched in the region so that hospitals, public transport and other important social infrastructure can continue to function. The governor also called on residents to save electricity.

Other regions were also hit by Russian attacks on energy infrastructure on Tuesday.
In the south, two sites were damaged in the Vinnytsia region in drone and missile strikes. At least two people were injured, the southern command of the Ukrainian army said on Facebook. And earlier, the governor of the western region of Lviv reported three explosions at two infrastructure sites in the region.

The Ukrainian government called on the population to limit power consumption. “During peak times – from 5 to 11 p.m. – don’t turn on energy-hungry devices either,” Okerai Prime Minister Denis Chmygal asked on Telegram. He talked about electric hobs, kettles and dishwashers, among other things. “This is very important for the stable operation of our energy system and the need to repair damaged infrastructure,” he said.

Since Monday, Ukraine has been the target of numerous Russian attacks on its energy infrastructure, in retaliation for the partial destruction of Russia’s Crimean Bridge.

On Monday alone, 3,900 towns were without power, Chmygal said. “Since then, power has been restored in 3,800 of those.” On Tuesday alone, 33 bombings were reported, he said. “But we are united and will stand.”
