Dutch volleyball players not through to quarter-finals World Cup

VOLLEYBALL – The Dutch volleyball women lost to the Brazilian team at the World Cup. This means that the Orange squad will not advance to the quarterfinals.

The team was eliminated in three sets. (19-25 19-25 20-25).

At the previous World Cup in 2018, the Netherlands finished fourth, but during this championship top teams from Italy, China, and Brazil proved stronger. Belgium also surpassed the Dutch volleyball players. On Sunday, the Dutch team will play against Japan.

Laura Dijkema from Beilen played against the Brazilians. She was also drafted during the World Cup in 2018, but the current team is generally a lot younger. Earlier she also indicated that this is probably her last world championship.

National coach Avital Selinger started with the same line-up as the day before against China, when the Dutch played a strong first set, but eventually went down in five sets. Ellen Dambrink, Juliët Lohuis, Anne Buijs, Britt Bongaerts, Nika Daalderop, Eline Timmerman and Libero Myrthe Schoot were drafted. The Netherlands quickly fell behind, but managed to catch up with substitutes Laura Dijkema and Celeste Plak. Despite this, Brazil won the set 25-19.

The second set was similar. Brazil always took a small lead and the Orange fought back as best they could with, among others, substitute Fleur Savelkoel, only to see the Brazilians take off again later with a lead. The Brazilians also won the second set 25-19.

The third and final set was also taken by Brazil, although it was still tense with a score of 9-9. In the end, the set ended with a score of 24-19.
