Which municipality has too many (or too few) coffee shops?

In Helmond, there has been discussion for a long time about the question of whether a second coffee shop could be opened in the city. In comparable cities they have a lot more coffee shops. Check here what the situation is in your municipality.

Who actually decides whether a coffee shop is allowed somewhere? That’s what the church is about. Most municipalities use a standard based on the number of inhabitants. The more residents, the greater the chance that a permit will be issued for a coffee shop. The guideline varies from one coffee shop per 15,000 to 40,000 inhabitants.

Assuming one coffee shop per 40,000 inhabitants, it is striking that a number of municipalities in our province are (significantly) above this. This is especially the case in the large cities of Eindhoven, Tilburg and Breda. According to the directive, there would be room for several coffee shops in other municipalities, but there are none. This applies, for example, to Meierijstad and Roosendaal.
